Why I Take Goose Quill in Hand

“Luther once said, ‘The devil hates goose quills,’ and, no doubt, he has good reason; the writer's pen blessed by the Holy Spirit has damaged his evil kingdom greatly.” – C.H. Spurgeon

When God led me to launch Risk Takers for Christ in August 2011, one of the first things I did was start writing and publishing a devotional message each weekday. My goal was to bless and encourage believers, but also to challenge them to step outside their spiritual comfort zones and to be bolder in their faith. That is why I title these messages “Dare 2B Daring”, because we all need a gentle push – and sometimes a not-so-gentle shove – so we don’t fall into a spiritual rut.

To date, God has enabled me to write more than 3,700 Dare 2B Daring devotional messages that are sent free by email to a growing list of subscribers. I also post them on several Facebook pages each weekday to increase the number of “eyeballs” that see them.

I have no idea how many people actually read my devotionals, although I am able to track the number of subscribers who “open” the message each day. So, why do I spend so much time writing them?

Well, for several reasons. First, because God laid it on my heart to do so and I learned a long time ago that when God leads you to do something, it’s best to obey immediately, voluntarily, and joyfully.

Second, because I have been told countless times over the years that I have a God-given talent for writing and so, God expects a ROI… a return on His investment (see Matthew 25:14-30).

Third, because if I can encourage one struggling believer – or challenge a lackadaisical one – then my purpose will have been accomplished.

Hopefully, you have been blessed by my taking “goose quill in hand” for the past 15 years… and Satan’s evil kingdom has been damaged!

“For I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” Romans 1:11-12 (BSB)
