What Do Deer, Owls, Raccoons, Possums and False Teachers Have in Common?

“False teachers, like owls, hate daylight.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Deanna and I just got back from a week’s vacation in south Georgia with our six precious grandchildren and to say it was the highlight of our year would be a gross understatement. I simply cannot get enough of Brady, Sadie, Levi, Dylan, Bella, and Charlotte… and I love being around them 24/7. It’s hard to explain just how much joy they bring to my life.
The first two days, we spent at a hotel in Albany called Merry Acres, where we did some local sightseeing such as the Chehaw Park and Zoo and the Flint RiverQuarium. We also enjoyed a delicious meal at Pearly’s Famous Country Cooking and swam to our heart’s content at the hotel pool, which we had all to ourselves.
From there, we traveled to Providence Canyon State Park to see the “Little Grand Canyon of Georgia”, which was breathtaking to say the least, and to Columbus State College to tour the Coca-Cola Space Science Museum. Our grandkids loved the interactive exhibits there, including the flight simulators.
Our next two nights were spent in a lakeside cabin on Lake Blackshear in the Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele. While there, we rented a pontoon boat for two hours and spent time playing on the sandy beach.
Driving back to our cabin after fishing one night, we noticed a deer in the woods. She was soon joined by another deer and then two more. All four deer paused and looked at us as we stared back at them. I guess they were sizing us up to see if we posed a threat.
Some animals – like deer, owls, raccoons, and possums – are far more commonly seen at dusk or later. So, according to Charles Spurgeon, are false teachers who thrive when the light is at its dimmest. However, once they are confronted with the truth of God’s Word, they generally flee in fright… like cockroaches in a dark room once the lights are turned on. That is why it is so important to know the Bible inside and out, so we are not deceived by those who preach a false gospel.
Following that logic, I read a Christian storybook to our grandkids every night before bedtime and we prayed before every meal.
