“Provision is rooted in obedience rather than sweat and toil.” – Os Hillman
Tag team wrestling is a type of professional wrestling in which matches are contested between teams of multiple wrestlers. Tag teams may be made up of wrestlers who normally wrestle in singles competition, but more commonly feature established teams who wrestle regularly as a unit and have a team name and identity.
In most team matches, only one competitor per team is allowed in the ring at a time. This status as the active or legal wrestler may be transferred by physical contact, most commonly a palm-to-palm tag which resembles a high-five. Among the most famous tag teams of all-time are Edge and Christian, the Hart Foundation, The New Age Outlaws, the Hardy Boyz, the British Bulldogs, the Wild Samoans, Demolition, and the Legion of Doom.
Well, today’s spiritual tag team features Os Hillman, founder of Marketplace Leaders, and Charles Haddon Spurgeon, known as the “Prince of Preachers”. Both men – starting with Os, whose words will be italicized – will be commenting on the subject addressed in today’s quote.
“There will be times when you will receive very little for your efforts. But there will be other times when you will receive much more than you deserve. That is God’s grace in operation. Learn to walk with Him and do your work unto Him. As you worship Him in your work, He will be the provider of all you will need. When the Israelites came into the Promised Land, they were successful because of their obedience, not their skill. So, too, will your success come because of your love and obedience to God.”
“Believer, though all things are apparently against you, rest assured that God has made a reservation on your behalf; in the roll of your griefs there is a saving clause. Somehow, He will deliver you, and somewhere He will provide for you. Your rescue may come from a very unexpected source, but help will definitely come in your extremity, and you will magnify the name of the Lord. If men do not feed you, ravens will; and if the earth does not yield wheat, heaven will drop manna.”
“Therefore, be of good courage, and rest quietly in the Lord. God can make the sun rise in the west if He pleases and can make the source of distress a channel of delight. The grain in Egypt was all in the hands of the beloved Joseph; he opened or closed the granaries at will. And so, the riches of providence are all in the absolute power of our Lord Jesus, who will dispense them generously to His people. Joseph was abundantly ready to help his own family; and Jesus is unceasing in His faithful care for His brethren.”
“Our responsibility is to go after the help that is provided for us: We must not sit still in despondency but stir ourselves. Prayer will bring us quickly into the presence of our royal Brother. Once before His throne we have only to ask and receive. His stores are not exhausted; there is still grain: His heart is not hard; He will give the grain to us. Lord, forgive our unbelief, and constrain us to draw largely from Your fullness and receive grace for grace.”
“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.” Psalm 127:2 (BSB)
