A Flying Leap Into the Sea of Forgetfulness

“In the Red Sea of His own blood, our Redeemer has drowned the Pharaoh of our sins: Shall He not be Lord and King?” – C.H. Spurgeon

Charles Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”, threw me a curve ball with today’s quote. You see, I have never equated the Red Sea, which God parted to allow Moses and the Israelites to pass through on dry ground, with the blood of Christ. But the analogy fits like a glove!

Just like the walls of water crashed down upon Pharoah and his army – drowning them in the midst of their futile attempt to chase down the fleeing Israelites – so does the blood of Christ cover, smother, and drown our sins in God’s sea of forgetfulness… to be remembered no more.

I don’t know about you, my friend, but far too often I allow Satan to remind me of my past sins, mistakes, and failures – and trust me, there have been plenty of all three. But God doesn’t do that; in fact, He does the exact opposite. He forgets all about them!

Please don’t take my word for it; take HIS…

“They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.” Jeremiah 31:34 (NASB)

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV)

And so, the next time Satan tries to remind you about how you fell short, screwed up, and let God down in the past… just tell him to take a long walk off a short pier followed by a flying leap into the sea of forgetfulness.

“He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:19 (BSB)
