You're Stepping On My Toes!

“If I hate sin because of the punishment, I have not repented of my sin, I merely regret that God is just.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Ouch! Charles Spurgeon just stepped on my toes… big time!
How about you?
Truth be told, there have been many times in my life – especially when I was a kid – when I was sorrier that I got caught than I was for the sin that I had actually committed. I guess that is just part of human nature.
Thankfully, there have been other times when the Holy Spirit so pricked my guilty conscience that I cried out to God with genuine tears of repentance… even though I hadn’t been caught and my secret sin was just between God and me. It is times like these when you know that you are a true child of God because the Holy Spirit just won’t let you rest until you make things right.
As I sit here this afternoon, typing away at my laptop, I can honestly say that I have apologized to God for every wrong deed I have ever done… and sincerely meant it. That doesn’t mean that I won’t go out and commit a new sin tomorrow – or maybe the same one for the 1,000 time – but truthfully, I am getting better at not doing that the older I live and the closer I walk with Jesus.
I suppose you could say that I just got tired of getting my toes stepped on!
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9 (BSB)
