Smashed to Smithereens

“The glory of the Lord is seen in its grandeur in the fall of empires and the crash of thrones.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Over the past 3,000 years or so, there have been a series of empires that have risen and fallen, only to be replaced by yet another empire. Egypt and its mighty pharaohs gave way to Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians, who were conquered by the Assyrians and then the Persians.
Next came Alexander the Great and Greece… Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus and Rome… and then the Ottoman and Napoleonic empires. Of course, not one of them is still in existence today.
Only one kingdom remains – and always will remain – and that is the kingdom of God. When Jesus Christ returns with the armies of heaven and defeats Satan’s legions at the Battle of Armageddon, He will then reign and rule the world from Jerusalem for 1,000 years. After that Millennial period is over, Satan will be released from captivity for a short period of time to lead one final rebellion against God, which will be smashed to smithereens.
That, my friend, is when the new heaven and the new earth will come into existence and the New Jerusalem will come down from heaven “prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2). Best of all, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.” (Revelation 21:3)
As an avid historian – and a born-again believer – I can’t wait for that final and greatest kingdom to be revealed. How about you?
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” Proverbs 21:1 (NKJV)
“He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” Daniel 2:21 (BSB)
