Self-Made vs. God-Made... Which One Are You?

“The greatest judgement which God can, in the present life, inflict upon a man is to leave him in the hand of his own boasted free-will.” – Augustus Toplady

The last thing I ever want to be is a self-made man.

You see, self-made men are prideful, arrogant, and believe that they – and they alone – are responsible for their own success. Somehow, they conveniently forget that God gave them life… and health… and strength… and wisdom… and intelligence… and talent… and whatever other gifts that were used to bring about that success.

No, my friend, I would much rather be a God-made man.

God-made men are humble, aware of their own shortcomings, and forever reliant on God for His strength, guidance, and direction. And when they succeed, guess who gets the glory, honor, and praise?

GOD!!!

One of the best examples of a God-made man is David. He was the runt of the litter, the youngest of Jesse’s sons, considered so inconsequential that when Samuel came to anoint the next king, Jesse left David out in the field with the sheep. Thankfully, God saw David’s heart and not his stature (I Samuel 16:7).

David would go on to become Israel’s greatest king and incredibly, he never lost a single battle. Do you know why? Because before he went out to war, he always asked God for guidance and followed His direction to a tee.

My friend, the world may praise, honor, and idolize self-made men and women, but they are really a dime a dozen. On the contrary, God-made people are His rarest, most useful, and most prized possessions.

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast in His presence.” I Corinthians 1:27-29 (BSB)
