Raise Your Hand If You're Perfect

“The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Raise your hand if you have lived a perfect life... or were 100% sinless in 2025.
O.K., since I don’t see any hands, let me make this a little easier. Raise your hand if you somehow managed to go one month, one week, or one day without making a single mistake during the past year.
Still no hands? Well, join the club!
The point is that we are all human, which means we are both fallible and sinful. In other words, we simply can’t help ourselves. We aren’t computers, so we make mistakes… and we aren’t divine, so we disobey God and His laws.
So, what’s a guy or gal to do? Well, the first thing we should do is confess our sins to God and repent of them. And the second thing we should do is relax and stop trying to be perfect when it comes to things of this world. Do your best? Absolutely! But cut yourself some slack when you fall a bit short.
Here are some insights from Os Hillman that may prove helpful as you enter a New Year…
“Failures do not mean you are a failure. They simply mean you have fallen short. Some of life's greatest lessons can come through the lessons learned from your failures. If you allow mistakes to define your future, you will never risk again. You will live in fear of failing. You will define your life by performance. God desires you to live free of fear and performance, willing to risk and trust Him for outcomes. Fear of failure hampers your ability to walk with God and leaves you unsure of His love and omnipotence in your life. God will never define you by your past, only by what He sees as your potential.”
“But one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13
