I Wonder If Barbra Streisand Eats at Golden Corral?

It’s rather ironic that I chose this quote for today. First, because today is my 67th birthday. Second, because if there is one thing I have been guilty of during my 40 years of ministry it is sometimes being so focused on projects and programs that I have neglected the people that made them possible, let alone successful.
Actually, I think I have been making some progress in this area in recent years, maybe because I am growing older and (hopefully) a little wiser. But as a task-oriented person with a Type-A personality, there were times in my younger days when my goals – even though they were honorable and not the least bit self-serving – were so all-encompassing and so all-consuming that I sometimes lost track of the things that mattered the most… like people.
In other words, Barbra Streisand was right when she sang “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world”.
And so, to prove that I’m taking a few baby steps in the right direction, I am going to cut today’s devotional message a bit short so I can take my favorite person out to lunch. You see, Golden Corral sent me a coupon for a free buffet for my birthday, and it just happens to be Deanna’s favorite restaurant.
