I Will Never Buy an Unassembled Grill... Again

“Brethren, we preach Christ crucified, because we have been saved by Christ crucified.” – C.H. Spurgeon

I will never, ever, ever buy an unassembled grill again.

When Deanna and I bought our first one, we decided to save a little money and assemble it ourselves. After all, how hard could it be, right?

Well six hours – and lots of mumbling and grumbling – later, our grill was finally assembled and ready to use. The only problem was that we were too tired to cook anything on it!

For whatever reason, people treat salvation the same way. “No, thanks”, we tell God, “We’ll do it ourselves.” And so, we try to earn our way to heaven by accumulating as many good deeds as we can, forgetting the fact that one bad deed (the Bible calls that S-I-N) is enough to keep us out of God’s Celestial City.

My friend, God’s plan of salvation is as simple as ABC. ADMIT you are a sinner… BELIEVE that Jesus died on the cross in your place to pay the penalty for your sins… and CONFESS Him as your Lord and Savior.

In other words, salvation depends 100% on Christ’s finished work at Calvary and 0% on you and your good deeds.

So, put away that self-help book and those other instruction manuals… and simply B-E-L-I-E-V-E.

“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (BSB)

“But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:8-10 (ESV)
