Hallelujahs in Heaven

Men are walking contradictions and since I am a man, I guess that means I am guilty as charged.
Gather a bunch of guys together to watch a football game between two rival teams and they will hoot and holler, cheer and sometimes swear, all the while making enough noise to raise the roof or raise the dead.
However, take those same men to church to hear a pastor share the Good News of Jesus Christ – and how their once black as coal sins are now washed clean by the blood of the Lamb – and nary a one of them will whisper an “Amen”, shout “Praise the Lord!”, or let rip a good, old-fashioned “Hallelujah!”
Why is it that we are so animated about things like sports and politics, but so sedate about worshipping the One True Living God?
My “excuse” is that I am relatively shy and reserved by nature and don’t like calling attention to myself. And so, whereas my soul may be virtually leaping out of my chest in praise and worship, my outward demeanor won’t necessarily reflect those emotions.
Maybe someday that will change this side of heaven, but I am fairly confident that I will become much more demonstrative in my worship once I get to glory. In the meantime, I guess I will just have to take to heart the following admonition from Charles Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”…
“Do we not have something to sing about at this moment? Can we not weave a song out of our present joys or our past deliverances or our future hopes?”
Of course, the answer to all those questions is a resounding “Yes!” And so, we – meaning you and me – should start “practicing our praises” here on earth so we’re ready for all those “Hallelujahs in heaven”.
