Gray Hair, Crow's Feet, and Forgiven Sins

“Satan tells me I am unworthy; but I always was unworthy, and yet You have long loved me; and therefore my unworthiness cannot be a barrier to having fellowship with You now.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Look in the mirror and what do you see?
In my case, I see a man in his mid-60s with crow’s feet around his eyes and hair that is almost completely gray. But do you know what else I see? A man who has made a lot of mistakes in life. Some of them were small and some of them were quite large.
And yes, many of them qualified as not only mistakes, but also as sins.
But here is the good news. All of them have been forgiven, covered by the shed blood of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And so, when I look in the mirror, I also see a man at peace with himself.
At this stage of my life, I have no unconfessed sins and am trying my best – through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit – to stay in close fellowship with Jesus. I pray and read the Bible daily, share my faith readily and often, and lay my head on my pillow at night with a clear conscience.
You can’t put a price tag on that!
Truth be told, I am still a very, very long way from being perfect. But as the old southern gospel song says, “I may not be the man I ought to be but thank God I’m not the man I used to be.”
And the credit for that belongs to Jesus!
“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 (BSB)
