Botox, Tummy Tucks, and Oil of Olay

“There is not a sin in the Book of God, even now, against one of His people. Who dares to lay anything to their charge?” – C.H. Spurgeon
I am 65 years old… and I look it.
My hair is mostly gray, I have crow’s feet around both eyes, and new age spots seem to pop up overnight.
But do you know what? I am actually O.K. with all those signs of aging (although my arthritic knees are another story).
The way I look at it, I have lived a full and active life that included playing competitive sports for 55 years and counting, and I can still run up and down a basketball court (although half-court is much easier on my aforementioned knees). And next month, I will attempt to play 100 holes of golf in a single day to raise money for our Living H2O Initiative, a basketball outreach to at-risk youth in our community.
Best of all, my health still allows me to travel with my beautiful bride of almost 40 years and to enjoy the company of our six precious grandkids. In fact, Deanna and I are taking the four oldest ones to Kentucky in a couple weeks to visit Mammoth Cave, Lost River Cave, and Dinosaur World amongst other attractions.
So, what is my point? I just don’t understand the people who spend thousands of dollars each year on cosmetic surgery, Botox injections, or the latest magic elixir that promises to turn back the hands of time. History records that Ponce de Leon died while searching in vain for the Fountain of Youth.
Meanwhile, Father Time remains undefeated.
However, the Good News is that as Christians, we will one day stand spotless before God. Not because we covered ourselves with Oil of Olay, but because our sins were forever cleansed by the blood of the Lamb.
Here is how Charles Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”, put it…
“There is neither speck, nor spot, nor wrinkle, nor anything remaining upon any one believer in this matter of being justified in the sight of the Judge of all the earth.”
“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” I Corinthians 6:11 (BSB)
