ABSOLUTELY... There Is Absolute Truth!
Monday, April 6, 2026
“A writer who says that there are no truths, or that all truth is ‘merely relative,’ is asking you not to believe him. So don’t.” – Roger Scruton
Sir Roger Vernon Scruton (1944-2020) was a British philosopher, writer, and social critic. The founding-editor of The Salisbury Review, a conservative political journal, Scruton wrote over 50 books on architecture, art, philosophy, politics, and religion, among other topics. In the 1980s, he helped to establish underground academic networks in Soviet-controlled Eastern Europe, for which he was awarded the Czech Republic’s Medal of Merit (First Class) by President Vaclav Havel in 1998. Scruton was knighted in 2016 for "services to philosophy, teaching and public education".
A pretty impressive resume, for sure. And yet, the statement that Scruton made in today’s quote is so basic, so simple, and so elementary that it could have been said by someone with far fewer academic credentials. However, that’s exactly the point Scruton is making.
You see, some people are so convinced that they possess a superior intellect that they simply cannot accept the basic truth of God’s Word. Instead, they are always trying to add to – or subtract from – what the Bible teaches.
Other people are too prideful to take the Bible and its teachings at face value, maybe because they don’t agree with some of the “behavioral guardrails” they contain. You know, the list of “Thou shalt nots” in Exodus 20 that ruffle their feathers and prick their pride.
And so, they invent their own system of beliefs in which there are no absolutes, and you can pick and choose what you want to believe as if you are ordering off an ala carte menu. That kind of arrogant narcissism leads straight to hell.
My friend, there IS absolute truth in this world… and His name is Jesus, the Living Word!
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6 (BSB)
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (NKJV)
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17 (NKJV)
