A Tribute to Charlie Kirk

I chose this verse for today several weeks ago, not knowing that it would be published the day after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. And yet, what better description of a man who loved God, his family, and his country… and gave his life in the service of all three.
Here are some thoughts I posted on Facebook yesterday, just minutes after Charlie’s death was confirmed by President Trump. I trust it provides a modicum of hope and comfort for you in these troubled times, which are also times of incredible ministry opportunity.
Remember that the light shines brightest in the darkness!
Remember what happened when a racist coward named James Earl Ray gunned down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis TN?
Instead of silencing Dr. King’s voice, Ray’s cowardice amplified it, turning King’s message of racial equality into an unstoppable movement that forever changed America for the better.
The same thing happened when a Jewish mob, incited by the Pharisees, demanded that the Roman governor put an itinerant rabbi to death… only to see Him rise from the dead three days later and inspire His disciples to transform the world.
As a believer in Jesus Christ, Charlie Kirk is already at peace in his Savior’s presence. However, I have a sneaky suspicion that the cowardly assassin who took Charlie’s life - and robbed his wife of her husband and his children of their father - inadvertently lit a conservative and constitutional fire as well as a spiritual revival that will sweep across this nation and reshape our country for generations to come.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV)
