Spurgeon's Mic Drop

“If you would have Christ with you, seek Him boldly. Let nothing hold you back. Defy the world. Press on where others flee.” – C.H. Spurgeon

According to Wikipedia, the phrase “mic drop” is the gesture of intentionally dropping one’s microphone at the end of a performance or speech to signal triumph. In other words, you’ve said all that needs to be said and the point you just made is so persuasive that it cannot possibly be refuted no matter how hard others might try.

When you find yourself in such a situation, it is always better to stop talking and exit the stage. Simply put, there is nothing else to be gained and therefore, no purpose in trying to further strengthen your already winning argument. In fact, attempting to do so can only backfire as your words become more and more redundant, detracting from – and watering down – your previous eloquence.

I guess that is why, having read today’s quote by Charles Spurgeon, I decided not to try to explain it in any more detail or to vainly add something of my own. Such an endeavor would be futile in nature because the “Prince of Preachers” has succinctly encapsulated what the Christian life is all about.

A.W. Tozer echoed this same message in his classic work, The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine. I highly recommend it, as well as anything and everything written by Spurgeon.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirst for God, for the living God.” Psalm 42:1-2a (NKJV)
