“Of all the things in the world that can set the heart burning, there is nothing like the presence of Jesus!” – C.H. Spurgeon

I love pizza, hot wings and other spicy foods. To me, there’s nothing better than enjoying an entrée that has a little “bite” to it.

Sadly, I had reached a point in my life a few years ago where even tap water gave me heartburn. Tums, Rolaids and other antacids weren’t much help and only masked the problem. But I wasn’t willing to throw in the towel, giving up my favorite foods for a bland diet. And so, I tried Prilosec… and from the very first day, my life – and my eating habits – were back to normal. Now, all I have to do is pop one tablet (it can be Prilosec, Nexium or a generic brand) in the morning and I am good to go for the rest of the day.

However, there is one burning sensation that I don’t ever want to lose. Simply put, I hope and pray that I never lose my passion for Jesus… or for preaching the gospel… or for reaching the lost.

Several years ago, I wrote a small pamphlet titled “Consumed by Christ”. It described my all-consuming passion for my Savior and how I want Him to own and operate every aspect of my life. In fact, I may still have a few copies lying around if you’d like one.

In the meantime, I pray that you also will be consumed with an inner fire to know God and to make Him known. Loving and serving Jesus by loving and serving others is what this life is all about.

Now excuse me while I go celebrate the New Year with a dozen hot wings… or pepperoni pizza… or both!

“…zeal for Your house has eaten me up…” Psalm 69:9 (NKJV)
