My Favorite Actor is Humphrey Bogart

“I always felt like I was meant to have been born in another era, another time.” – Johnny Depp

I have often said that I was born at least 30 years too late. Consider the following facts…

 I love “old school” sports and long for the days when men played for the love of the game instead of for the love of the money.

 I hate showboating, the tendency of modern-day athletes to call attention to themselves rather than to their team.

 I love holding a newspaper in my hands and refuse to read a book on Kindle. The same goes for the Bible. I want a hard copy on my lap so I can page through it as the teacher teaches and the preacher preaches. No eBible for me.

 My favorite singer is Frank Sinatra and my favorite actor is Humphrey Bogart. Need I go on?

But do you know what? I am convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that God ordained me to be born on September 30, 1959… and He doesn’t make mistakes! That means that there is a reason why I grew up when and where I did, and why I like the things I do. There is also a reason why I am good at writing, but bad at penmanship; good at sports, but bad at home repairs.

The truth of the matter is that God is sovereign and so, I don’t have to fully understand His plans for me. I simply need to trust Him… and obey His Word as best I can.

That simple “trust and obey” formula was good enough for the great men and women of the Bible like Joseph, David, Daniel, and Paul. It was also good enough for my heroes in the faith: George Whitefield, Charles Spurgeon, Billy Sunday, and Chuck Colson.

Like me, you were born at a specific time, in a specific place, for a specific purpose. Ask God to fulfill His perfect plan for your life… and don’t look back.

“Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 (NKJV)
