Dylan Loves Choco Mook

“If you desire Jesus’ presence, weep after it! If you cannot be happy unless He come and say to you, “You are My beloved,” you will soon hear His voice.” – C.H. Spurgeon

Our grandson Dylan likes chocolate milk… a lot! Now that he is almost four, he knows how to ask for it politely. However, when he was a little younger, he would cry “Choco Mook” at the top of his lungs whenever he had a hankering for it. One time, his craving was so strong that he actually had tears streaming down his face while I hurriedly mixed his favorite drink.

As Charles Spurgeon points out in today’s quote, our desire for Jesus – and our need to experience His constant presence in our lives – should cause us to cry out in prayer until we are fully satisfied. Unfortunately, many people only do so when they are in some type of trouble. And so, their desperate plea goes something like this…

“Please rescue me from (fill in the blank) and I promise to (fill in the blank).”

Of course, once that emergency is over, we all too often go back to life as usual… until the next time our spiritual house is on fire. Then, we sound the prayer alarm once again, hoping that Jesus will show up in a heavenly hook and ladder truck to quench the flames that are engulfing us.

Wouldn’t it be better if our cries to God occurred when things were actually going well, but we simply wanted to spend some more 1-on-1 time with Him anyway? Desiring spiritual intimacy with our Creator, Savior, and Redeemer shouldn’t be reserved for when we are in crisis mode. Instead, it should be a 24/7 craving that is as insatiable as Dylan’s thirst for Nestle’s Quick or Hershey’s Syrup.

“Out of the depth I have cried to You, O LORD; LORD, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.” Psalm 130:1-2 (NKJV)
