“There was never a revival of religion without a revival of Satan’s opposition.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Have you ever wondered why things seemingly “hit the fan” when you really step out in faith? I regularly witnessed this not-so-rare occurrence in my former ministry, The Saints Prison Ministry. It seemed like every time one of our softball teams was preparing to go on an extended ministry trip, one of our players would experience some sort of family crisis. A child would get sick, a pipe would burst, or an appliance would stop working.
That would force the player to make a tough decision: do I leave my family in the midst of this unfortunate situation or do I stay home to take care of matters, knowing full well that it will prevent me from participating in a long-anticipated prison trip? Almost always, the crisis was minor enough – and the wife’s faith was strong enough – that he was able to go on the trip with her blessing.
But the point wasn’t lost on any of us: Satan doesn’t like it when we take our faith seriously or try to share it with others. As a matter of fact, he gets angry and annoyed and starts throwing a hissy fit every time we do.
I still remember the words of my boss at my former job when I answered God’s call to full-time ministry. Just 20 days after taking that plunge, our 2-year old son Chris suffered a massive stroke. “Remember,” my old boss said, “you are now in Satan’s crosshairs.”
Yes, Satan is a coward. If his attacks against you don’t work, he will go after your wife and your children. That is why a prayer covering is so important, especially for those of us in full-time vocational ministry.
Here are the areas where Satan attacks my family and me most frequently: inadequate ministry finances (which, in turn, cause inadequate personal finances); health; moral purity; and discouragement (often caused by a feeling of being alone on the “front lines”).
What keeps us going in the midst of these trials is the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit, our faith, and the prayers of His saints.
So, please pray for the Glading family and Risk Takers for Christ, and we will gladly do the same for you. In fact, feel free to share your personal prayer requests with me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by text at 772.539.1826. You can also PM me via my personal or ministry Facebook pages. In any case, be assured that I will keep your concerns 100% confidential.
In the meantime, remember that Satan is like the big, bad wolf: a lot of “huff and puff”, but very little power to blow the house down.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” I Peter 5:8-9 (NKJV)
