Be a Trailblazer

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Last week, I received the following email from a Christian brother with whom I have ministered behind bars many times.
“Your vision to minister to men behind bars through sports roughly 35 years ago has led to an unimaginable number of teams taking the Gospel into prisons. The Deacons are now an independent, non-profit and we are starting a branch in South Carolina. They will go on their first crusade this September to Kentucky.”
As you can imagine, it was very encouraging to hear how the small ministry God led me to begin in 1987 has grown beyond my wildest dreams. From a single softball team in New Jersey, the ministry had expanded to include multiple softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams based in NJ, PA, CO, VA, NC, and GA by the time I left in 2011. Hundreds of prisons – and hundreds of thousands of inmates – later, God is still blessing that ministry and using it to win men, women and teens to Himself.
So, what trail might God want YOU to blaze, my friend? Here are some additional quotes to inspire you to ask God to use you in a unique and powerful way…
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe
“A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.” – John Barrymore
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” – Harriet Tubman
“Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“When I’m old and dying, I plan to look back on my life and say, ‘Wow, that was an adventure,’ not, ‘Wow, I sure felt safe.’” – Tom Preston-Werner
