Avengers: End Game

“Life is so constructed, that the event does not, cannot, will not, match the expectation.” – Charlotte Brontë , Villette
Avengers: Endgame was probably the most anticipated movie of my life. After watching Infinity War, its forerunner, I waited a year to see how an agonizing cliffhanger would be resolved. Going into the theater, my expectations for a truly amazing film had never been higher.
Sadly, I was disappointed. Endgame was good, but it was certainly not great. The overall story of the movie was rather predictable, character development was mishandled, and plot holes abounded. While some parts were entertaining, others were quite mediocre.
At the end of the day, though, it is just a movie. It is temporary gratification, aimed to please our worldly desires. Conversely, our eternal hope is in the Almighty God, who never fails us or leaves us discontented.
Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.”
Many times, life will fail to satisfy our want of the spectacular, whether from lofty expectations, the quality of the event, or both. But God remains faithful and promises to complete the good work He began in you.
“In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:11-14 ESV
